I have been married to Ann for 40 years and we have been Christians since 1986. I am a father of two boys and two girls and grandfather to three. My main function as an elder in my local church is evangelism, discipleship and teaching, and I am currently taking the lead in introducing Christianity Explored and Discipleship Explored courses, as well as occasionally preaching and trying to be as useful as I can.
I was a Mormon for 14 years and you can read the story of my leaving that organisation and coming to Christ here Since that time I have, for more than twenty years, worked closely with the late Doug Harris of Reachout Trust and I am currently working with others to help maintain that ministry as a web presence and teaching resource to honour his memory and continue his lifetime of service to the churches.
As part of the process of leaving Mormonism, and in an effort to understand our experiences and help others explore theirs, my wife and I wrote a book, Mormonism: A Gold-Plated Religion. It gives a British perspective of Mormonism. Mormonism came to the UK as early as 1837. It established an early stronghold here and our book helps tell that story. It is in its second edition and is available through Reachout Trust.
This blog is here to to discuss my Christian faith and my concerns about the Mormon Church, its teachings, its culture and to explain why I am firmly convinced it is not a Christian Church. Christians will have questions about Mormonism and witnessing to Mormons and my aim is to provide some helpful insights for them. When Mormons begin asking questions of their own faith they often find they need to achieve a distance from the subject to give them perspective. I hope they, too, will find this a safe and helpful place to ask those questions.
I am an evangelical Christian believer who trusts the Bible as the Word of God. With the Spirit's help, we can know God's purposes from his Word. I encourage people to open their Bibles regularly, read them often, and know God's Word for themselves. You will find truth in its words, wisdom in its counsel, peace and assurance in its trustworthy promises.
I trust in the Lord, Jesus Christ, who is "the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God." (Heb. 12:2, ESV) and who, on the cross, uttered the words, "It is finished" (Jn.19:30)
To add to the finished work of the cross is to take away from it.
